Garganeys taking to the air

Trip Notes: Asian Waterbird Census conducted by WBCP and DENR Region 3. The group covered two main areas namely Paralaya and Simang. The ponds surrounding the Mayor's house had noticeably less water compared to January last year (2010). Overgrowth of reeds, lotus plant, and grass were observed within the shallow ponds, which made counting difficult because the waterbirds were in hiding/camouflaged. Some areas further beyond the Mayor's house that used to be part of the wetland habitat were turned intro agricultural plots for planting rice. About two gun shots were heard while conducting the census, source was unidentified.
