TRIP NOTE S: AWC plus general survey by request of the office of Mayor Cel Navarro. We birded mainly at the Bangrin Marine Protected Area (which includes the Mangrove sanctuary and part of the Bani river) but also at the fields and fishponds of Brgys. Aporao and Luac which were on the way there. Brgy Aporao is the jump off point to go to the Mangrove sanctuary. We also did incidental birding at Surip and Olanen, where we were taken for some sight seeing and where we were lodged respectively. AWC count was 13,488 waterbirds, with at least 30 species seen. Besides the thousands of egrets leaving the mangrove roosting site early in the morning and flocks of Philippine ducks flying above the mangroves, other highlights included seeing 22 osprey all perched on the fishpen nets within a space of 1 km and seeing a flock of 40+ silky starlings in the mangrove- a lifer for everyone in the group.
