BALANGA CITY – A priest is vigorously promoting bird conservation in the province of Bataan.
Priest Auckhs Enjaynes, vice president for administration of Colegio de San Juan de Letran Bataan, spearheaded the holding of the seminar dubbed "Birding in Letran Bataan" and a bird photo exhibit today, Friday, in Letran campus in Abucay town.
Letran Bataan is currently conducting week-long activities for its College Week celebration that will culminate on the school's Foundation Day on February 2.
"The twin activities aim to highlight the importance of birds as indicators in caring for the environment," the priest pointed out.
Enjaynes, an active member of the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines (WBCP), also held in the past a photo exhibit at the Total Gas Station along North Luzon Expressway in San Simon, Pampanga of forest birds he photographed inside Letran campus.
Last Saturday, he joined the water bird census in this city assigned to the team that counted migratory birds in the swamplands of Barangay Tortugas.
The WBCP, for this year's count, has recorded 12,599 migratory birds belonging to 38 species in the city's coastal areas and swamps. •Butch Gunio
