March-April 2019 Round-up

March 2 – Guided trip in Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park
The Club conducted a guided trip at the Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park for a group of homeschool kids. Participants started at the Wetland Center and ended at Pond 1.  Migratory birds were not as many but there was a good diversity of species seen.

March 9 – 2nd WBCP Bird Race at Caylabne Bay Resort
To foster camaraderie, a half-day bird race was organized exclusively for club members at the Caylabne Bay Resort.  The winning team was an all-ladies team composed of Trinket Canlas, Jelaine Gan and Joni Acay.

March 10 – Guided trip – LPPCHEA
The Club also conducts guided birding trips for the general public in selected sites within Metro Manila.  As the migratory birds were still around, we organized another birdwatching trip to the Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park.

March 17 – Guided trip in UP Diliman
Member Dette de Venecia requested for a special guided trip for her friends.  The group went birdwatching at the pond at Krus na Ligas and the area around the Marine Science Institute.

March 21 – Inauguration of the Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park Visitor’s Center

The WBCP represented by Mike Lu was invited by the DENR-NCR to attend the inauguration of the Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park Visitor’s Center which will house their field office and includes a viewing deck on the second storey.

March 22 – Guided trip for Reedley School
Reedley International School requested a guided birdwatching trip for their students at the Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park.

March 27 – 2nd People’s Summit on the Impacts of Reclamation
The WBCP was invited to attend the Summit on the Impacts of Reclamation at the Bayleaf Hotel.The purpose of the summit was to get stakeholders and concerned organizations to share information on the effects as well as raise concern to the government to the plan to reclaim a huge portion of the coastal areas of Manila Bay.

April 6-7 Club trip to Subic Bay
Club members organized an overnight trip to Subic Bay, one of the easily-accessible sites for forest birding.  More club trips are planned in the coming months!

April 9 – Guided trip for homeschoolers
Another guided trip was conducted for homeschool kids at the Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park.  As an output of the trip, the kids wrote down their observations and even came up with sketches and paintings.

April 13 – Earth Day celebration at the Arroceros Forest Park
Club members participated in the Earth Day celebration of the Winner Foundation at the Arroceros Forest Park with a photo exhibit of birds found at the park, a birdwatching station, a children’s activity area for coloring and face-painting as well as sale of birdwatching-related merchandise.

April 27 – Interview on GMA’s I-Witness
WBCP’s Mike Lu was one of the resource persons interviewed for GMA’s I-Witness episode “Huling Gubat sa Maynila” on the importance and the threats facing Arroceros Forest Park in Manila.
