January 7, 2025 – Asian Waterbird Census in Ticao Island, Masbate

The primary reason for including Bongsanglay Natural Park in Ticao (Masbate) in the AWC was to check on the resident population of Wandering Whistling Ducks.

WBCP member Justine Albao joined the survey which only recorded 6 species. The resident population of Wandering Whistling Ducks was estimated at 60 birds. Notable wetland species was a pair of Malaysian Plovers in breeding plumage. Two abandoned mounds of Tabon Scrubfowl were also seen which indicated the presence of the species, however the abandonment also meant these mounds were disturbed as there were incidences of poaching of Tabon Scrubfowl eggs.
