SoundEscapes #3: Riverside Birding in Gawahon

by Janina Castro

Note: best to listen to this using headphones

It was my first time to bird in Gawahon (and my first time in Bacolod!) Plus Giv, one of my birder buddies from New Zealand, joined our trip. Shoutout to Bam and Oly for showing us around, and Ricky for being an amazing guide. It’s tricky trying to record in a new place. I didn’t know if I should prioritize recording birdsong or spotting lifers or catching up with friends, but it was definitely a memorable trip. And that’s why I love birding. It’s not about having amazing lists, it’s about enjoying time in nature with friends. This recording will always remind me of that wonderful morning.

We were birding along the waterfall and river and the cicadas sang nonstop, making it a bit hard to hear the birds. The birds in this recording are not as close as the previous recordings, but you can hear Visayan Bulbul, Elegant Tit, and Magnificent Sunbird.
